Restless Dance Theatre is undertaking an ambitious re-creation of Kontakthof, the seminal work by renowned choreographer Pina Bausch.
Recognised globally as one of the masterpieces of contemporary performance, Kontakthof transformed the way audiences understood dance, theatre and human connection. Its exploration of longing, vulnerability, belonging and relationships continues to resonate with audiences almost fifty years after its creation.
For the first time, one of the world's most celebrated performance works will be reimagined by d/Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent artists.
Developed in partnership with the Pina Bausch Foundation, this ambitious project challenges assumptions about who is entrusted with the world's most revered artistic works and demonstrates that artistic excellence belongs to everyone.
This is more than a production.
It is a statement about culture.
It is a statement about artistic leadership.
It is a statement about who gets to shape the future of contemporary performance.
The impact of this work extends far beyond a single season. It will:
· Create meaningful employment for artists and creatives
· Provide advanced artistic development and training
· Strengthen national and international partnerships
· Build pathways or future generations of artists
· And it will leave a lasting cultural legacy for Adelaide, for Australia and for disability-led performance internationally.
We are building a community of supporters to realise this ambitious new-iteration and we invite you to be a part of bringing Kontakthof to life.
Creative Partner: $50,000+
Production Circle: $25,000+

Together, we can create a defining moment in South Australian cultural History.
Join us in making it happen.

Restless is on a journey of understanding the Spirit of Place. We know this place is ancient and that the living spirit of the first peoples still breathe here. We respect the continuing living spirit of culture which lives through their generations today. Restless acknowledges the family clans of the Kaurna Nation and we shall walk softly and with respect as we feel the footprints of their ancestors.
