Koori Radio Launches First-Ever Supporter Drive Celebrating 25 Years of Community Broadcasting
“Celebrating 25 Years, With You for 25 More”
Koori Radio, Sydney’s only First Nations community radio station, is proud to announce the launch of its first ever Supporter Drive, running from May 1 to June 30, 2026. The campaign coincides with a major milestone. 25 years of broadcasting, storytelling, and amplifying Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices.
For a quarter of a century, Koori Radio has stood as a vital cultural platform. A place where community voices are heard, stories are shared, and First Nations music, news, and perspectives are celebrated every day.
Over the past 25 years, Koori Radio has proudly:
- Trained countless media professionals who have gone on to shape Australia’s media landscape.
- Delivered unforgettable live events, including Yabun Festival, Klub Koori and Koori Radio presents Powerhouse Lane; bringing communities together through music and culture.
- Conducted the Young Black & Deadly youth music workshop and incubator programs, inspiring and giving the necessary skills to the next generation of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander creatives.
- Connected with communities nationwide through live outside broadcasts, taking radio directly to the people.
- Championed deadly Indigenous artists, providing a consistent and powerful platform for their music and voices.
- Through on-air programming, amplify first nations communities from across the globe who call Sydney home. Including, Maori, Fijian, Samoan, Tongan, Cook Islander, Nigerian, Ghanaian, Palestinian, Native American, Latin American, Egyptian, East Timorese, Caribbean and across the years, many, many more.
- Expanded into digital storytelling through the launch of a dedicated podcast offering.
Now, with its inaugural Supporter Drive, Koori Radio is looking to the future.
Funds raised during the campaign will directly support a bold vision for the next 25 years, including:
- Refreshing volunteer spaces, including the lounge hub, kitchen, and training facilities to better support the people at the heart of the station.
- Refurbishing and modernising the Outside Broadcast Van to expand Koori Radio’s reach across communities.
- Establishing a dedicated Outside Broadcast team to deliver regular, live broadcasts from community spaces across the country. From live in the local cafe for The Brekky Show, to yearly events such as NAIDOC Week, Garma Festival, the NSW - Koori Knockout and our yearly, national, all day broadcast of Yabun Festival.
- Activating the rooftop of Koori Radio’s studios for gatherings, events, and celebrations of culture and creativity.
- Expanding pathways for volunteer engagement, training, and skills development.
- Growing Koori Radio’s podcasting capabilities, creating new opportunities for storytelling and community participation.
This Supporter Drive is about more than fundraising. It’s about investing in the future of Indigenous media. For 25 years, our community has supported us. Now we’re inviting everyone to be part of what comes next.
Koori Radio’s work has always been powered by community. By the voices, stories, and creativity of the people it serves. This campaign offers supporters the chance to play a direct role in sustaining and growing an essential First Nations media institution.
