Leading Youth Forward (LYF) provides at-risk Perth teenagers aged 13 to 16 years with positive experiences and role models that they are often deprived of due to their circumstances. Our aim in doing this is to take a proactive step in steering them towards a happier future and help to provide them with the kind of opportunities that are available to many others.
LYF was established in 2011 and runs events for teenagers, including day-long 'Big Days Out' and weekend camps, with a focus on having fun while also being challenged with personal development activities! By providing fun and memorable experiences we hope to positively influence them at a time in their lives when they are under a lot of peer pressure and just starting to make life-changing decisions. The services we provide are also aimed at providing respite for family members, which is especially valuable if teens comes from a large family, place high demand on family members' time and attention or when there are other special circumstances.
As LYF grows and evolves, we also aim to provide small grants and financial support to assist teens in pursuing opportunities and academic, sporting, musical and artistic interests that might otherwise be financially out of reach. We will also look at facilitating pathways to apprenticeships and vocational education, along with the necessary support, to help our older teens to fulfil their goals and aspirations.
LYF is distinguished from many other charities in being entirely run and staffed by volunteers, so every dollar raised goes directly to where it can make a difference.
