Lentara UnitingCare's Asylum Seeker Project supports people seeking asylum who are living lawfully in the community while they await the outcome of their claim for protection.
Many of the people we support face destitution every day as they are unable to work, unable to access government assistance (including Medicare and the Newstart Allowance) and often have very limited community links to turn to for support.
Without work rights and access to government assistance, people seeking asylum are among the most vulnerable people in Australia, facing poverty and homelessness.
Lentara's Asylum Seeker Project assists people seeking asylum by providing them with a Basic Living Allowance (BLA) of just $145 and a Myki card (for 10 daily trips) per month. This allowance helps cover their basic living expenses including food, clothing, housing, transport to and from medical and aid appointments, and medications. Often, however, the BLA is not enough cover these expenses.
You can help us, and make a huge difference in the life of someone who is seeking asylum and living below the poverty line. Show your support by making a donation, big or small, to help fund the essential BLA and travel program that the Asylum Seeker Project provides.
Just $35 provides a Myki card and credit for a month for one person
$70 helps one person afford food and basic necessities for a fortnight
For $180, you will provide a person seeking asylum with a Myki card and a Basic Living Allowance for a whole month
Please give as much as you can, and help relieve some of the uncertainty and fear that people seeking asylum live with every day.
