Help Us Build a Safe Future for Women and Children in the Barkly
Tennant Creek Women’s Refuge is raising funds to help build a purpose-built crisis accommodation facility for women and children escaping domestic, family and sexual violence.

For women and children experiencing violence, having somewhere safe to go can mean the difference between life and death.

Tennant Creek Women’s Refuge (TCWR) is the only specialist Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence service in Tennant Creek and the Barkly region, providing 24/7 crisis accommodation, outreach, counselling, advocacy and support to women and children experiencing violence.

But our current facility is no longer adequate for the level of need in our community.

Demand for our services continues to grow, while our existing accommodation is limited, ageing and not designed to meet the complex needs of women and children escaping violence. We have limited beds, significant accessibility limitations and no purpose-built environment designed around contemporary, trauma-informed crisis accommodation.

We need to build something better.
TCWR has undertaken a comprehensive feasibility study for a new purpose-built crisis accommodation facility in Tennant Creek.

The proposed facility will provide a safer, more secure and culturally responsive environment for women and children at the most vulnerable point in their lives.

The indicative P50 capital cost for the proposed facility is $18.4 million at the Weaber Road site.

This is a significant project — but the need is even greater.

We are asking governments, businesses, philanthropic organisations, community groups and individuals to stand with Tennant Creek Women’s Refuge and help us make this facility a reality.

Your donation can help us take the next step.
Every contribution, no matter the size, helps TCWR progress this critical project.

Your donation can help support:

Planning and development of the new facility
Building and construction costs
Safe and secure crisis accommodation
Trauma-informed spaces for women and children
Culturally appropriate and welcoming environments
Accessible facilities for people with disability
Safe spaces for children and young people
Security infrastructure and safety measures
Essential furnishings, equipment and fit-out
Gardens, outdoor spaces and areas that support healing and connection
This is more than a building.
This is about creating a place where a woman can arrive frightened and unsafe — and know that she is protected.

A place where a child can sleep safely without fear.

A place where women can access specialist support, counselling, advocacy and practical assistance.

A place where families can begin to recover, rebuild and move forward.

A purpose-built facility will allow TCWR to provide services in an environment specifically designed for safety, dignity, cultural responsiveness and healing.

The Barkly needs a safe place to turn.
Domestic, family and sexual violence does not discriminate. It affects women and children across our communities, including Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal families, people living in remote communities and people experiencing multiple and complex challenges.

In a remote region like the Barkly, the availability of specialist crisis accommodation can be the difference between escaping violence and remaining trapped in it.

We cannot build this facility alone.

We need our community and our supporters to help us create a lasting legacy of safety for generations of women and children across the Barkly.

Please help us build a safer future.
Your donation today will help Tennant Creek Women’s Refuge move closer to delivering the purpose-built crisis accommodation our community desperately needs.

Together, we can build more than a building.

We can build safety.
We can build hope.
We can build a future where women and children have somewhere safe to go.

Please donate today and stand with Tennant Creek Women’s Refuge.

Every woman and every child deserves to be safe.
