Lung cancer;

• Is the 4th most common cancer in Australia and has the highest mortality rate
• 10,000 cases diagnosed in Australia annually
• Kills more women than breast, uterine, and ovarian cancer combined
• Is a leading cause of cancer in the Aboriginal population
• Affects 35% of female lung cancer patients who are not smokers
• Has a five-year survival rate after diagnosis of less than 15%

Lung cancer is a stigmatised disease. But the Woolcock Institute is breaking through the notional barriers that have long been associated with this disease and fast-tracking the discovery of the cure! How? We are investing in a multidimensional, multifaceted approach through Australia's very first research centre dedicated to the study of lung cancer. Through this research centre and its network of research organisations, researchers that investigate all aspects of lung cancer will come together to share information as it is produced. This has never been done before because there has not been a facility to do that. The Woolcock Lung Cancer Centre will become the focal point of lung cancer research in Australia and the outcomes of concerted lung cancer research programs as part of the network will fast track discovery.

We are raising $450,000 to fund the position of Director of the Lung Cancer Research Centre for three years.
