About this cause

One in four Australian children experiences family violence. This is just one of the reasons that the number of children removed from their families is increasing every year.

By donating to MacKillop Family Services you'll help support families so that they can keep their children safe at home, but also to provide the best personalised care for children who cannot stay with their families

Our early intervention services support parents to provide  nurturing homes for their children when they need a helping hand. We connect families to further supports in the community and work with them to reinforce their strengths – as healthy families are the backbone of healthy communities.

For children unable to live at home, MacKillop provides foster care and residential homes, as well as homelessness support services. Our 700 foster carers support over 860 children in care. We support these children return to family where possible, or successfully transition into independent living. By donating today, you provide the committed care and support that will help these children heal from trauma and learn to trust again.

Children and young people who have experienced abuse or neglect are often unable to engage in mainstream schools. So our education services include specialist schools, outreach tutoring, homework programs and specialist support so children and young people can reconnect with learning.

How will the funds be used?

Community donations are crucial to our ability to:

  • Provide a trauma-informed approach that not only gives children and young people a safe place to belong, but the opportunity to heal and build a brighter future.
  • Personalise our care approaches for chidren with special needs (e.g. learning Auslan and modifying doorbells in a home catering to hearing impaired children).
  • Provide trauma-informed training for foster carers, and access to in-house psychologists, so they can better respond to the needs of children in their care.
  • Work with Aboriginal communities to address the over-representation of Aboriginal children in care.
  • Support former residents and their families.
