Mary Glowrey Heritage Fund

Mary Glowrey Heritage

Mary Glowrey Heritage Limited (ABN 39 604 292 346) conducts the Mary Glowrey Heritage Fund to raise funds to preserve, protect and promote the Mary Glowrey Collection and the legacy of a truly remarkable Victorian woman, Dr Sr Mary Glowrey JMJ (1887-1957).  The Collection of letters, historic images and memorabilia provides archival insight into the life and times of a gifted scholar from country Victoria who was a social activist and female medical practitioner in Melbourne until 1920, when she sailed to India to become the world's first nun-doctor missionary.  As lone doctor, she became the driving force in a radically visionary plan to train local Indian women to be doctors, nurses and pharmacists to stem the tide of suffering.  In 1943 she founded the Catholic Health Association of India, which today auspices the care of about 21 million people annually.  She is only the second Australian on the official path to sainthood.

The Mary Glowrey Heritage Fund is listed on the Register of Cultural Organisations and donations of over $2 are tax deductible.  Funds will be used to preserve, protect and display items from the Collection of local, national and international significance and to provide the public with information about the remarkable life and times of a remarkable Australian pioneer.
