Muscular Dystrophy is a genetic, neuromuscular condition which results in the progressive deterioration of muscle strength and function. There are over 60 different neuromuscular conditions, all of which affect the body differently. The more severe and most common forms may affect mobility, heart and lung function and can reduce life expectancy. Other forms weaken particular muscle groups and may not reduce an average lifespan. Some forms affect infants and children, while others do not appear until adulthood.

Muscular Dystrophy Queensland is a small charity that provides a range of free and NDIS funded services throughout the State. We rely on the support of our dedicated and generous donors to fund our charitable services to Queenslanders living with Muscular Dystrophy and other neuromuscular conditions.

Key areas of Expenditure:

Muscular Dystrophy Queensland supports people and families living in Queensland with Muscular Dystrophy and other neuromuscular conditions through:

• Casework to identify specific needs and support clients to have those needs met.
• Equipment loans and funding to enable access to vital equipment sooner. In turn offering individuals greater freedom and independence and assisting carers to support their loved ones.
• Information and referral to assist people to be informed and empowered in their lives.
• Community networking to foster connection and communication within local communities and throughout the State.
• Advocacy to protect the rights of people with muscular dystrophy and other neuromuscular conditions.
• Supporting research projects dedicated to improving treatments for people living with neuromuscular conditions, as well as those projects aimed at finding a cure.
