Members of the Friends originally successfully lobbied for the creation of the Park in the late 1970's to represent the environment of the Western Strzelecki Ranges, and have since created a network of trails, information signage and run events to introduce more people to the Park and its environment.
The Park is a small but important remnant, relatively close to increasing urbanisation, and becomes increasingly important to maintain now and into the future. It is the only Public land containing the Giant Gippsland Earthworm.
Without an active Friends group none of this work would have been carried out. The under-funding of Parks Victoria over many years means there are not enough on-ground rangers to maintain the parks, particularly the smaller ones like Mt Worth. The ranger in charge of Mt Worth is also responsible for several others. One person can only do so much.
