About this cause

First Nations Collaboration at Northey Street City Farm

One of the Northey Street City Farm's goals is to work collectively with First Nations people (especially Yuggera and Turrbal people) towards reparative and empowering action.

To contribute to this goal we organise activities which:

  • Acknowledge that we are on Yuggera and Turrbal land
  • Mitigate the harm done by colonisation to the land and its people
  • Tell the stories of the history of this place and people
  • Support engagement with First Nations people
  • Create a space to hear First Nations stories
  • Create a culturally safe place
  • Employ First Nations people to show we value diversity, acknowledge inequity and to learn from their knowledge and skills
  • Explore the links between Permaculture and First Nations knowledge and culture.

Northey Street City Farm has a First Nations Advisory Group that provides guidance and feedback on existing operations and new initiatives.

How will the funds be used?

Funds raised are used to support our ethic of Earth Care through collaboration with First Nations people (especially Yuggera and Turrbal people).

Key areas of expenditure: First Nations workshop presenters and performers; integration of First Nations perspectives into our education programs; scholarships for First Nations participants in our adult and youth education programs; providing access to land and native plants.

About Northey Street City Farm

Founded in 1994, Northey Street City Farm has since created a vibrant green oasis in the heart of Brisbane. Our vision is a world of abundance, connection and harmony.

Our purpose is to be an inspirational working model of a community-based urban permaculture farm, which promotes and educates for an ecologically and socially sustainable society.

Our social enterprises cover our general operating costs, but we have many environmental improvement projects that rely on donations and external funding sources.
