Flood Relief at Northey Street City Farm

Northey Street City Farm has flooded, and we need your help!

Our amazing staff and volunteers were able to raise and rescue many items of value, but our site was impacted by approximately 1.5m of floodwater.

The floodwater devastated our garden beds and infrastructure - including part of our electrical network, storage sheds, and several heavy appliances that couldn't be moved in time. We had to close our Nursery and cancel our weekly farmers' market. This resulted in significant lost revenue - during an already challenging period financially.

We know a lot of people are doing it tough right now and extend our best wishes to the wider community. Any amount you can spare to help Northey Street City Farm recover would make a difference and be much appreciated.

Flood Mitigation Projects at Northey Street City Farm

Unfortunately, our site is uninsurable for flood damage. Since the catastrophic flooding events of February 2022, Northey Street City Farm has created and implemented a flood preparedness plan which aims to reduce the impact of future floods. This includes rebuilding infrastructure with flood resilient materials, raising (or eliminating) sensitive items and appliances, and developing processes to raise or remove items of value in the event of a flood.

How will the funds be used?

Funds raised are used to make our site more flood resilient and reduce the financial impact of floods at Northey Street City Farm.

Key areas of expenditure: flood recovery, infrastructure repair/replacement, flood mitigation projects.

About Northey Street City Farm

Founded in 1994, Northey Street City Farm has since created a vibrant green oasis in the heart of Brisbane. Our vision is a world of abundance, connection and harmony.

Our purpose is to be an inspirational working model of a community-based urban permaculture farm, which promotes and educates for an ecologically and socially sustainable society.

Our social enterprises cover our general operating costs, but we have many environmental improvement projects that rely on donations and external funding sources.
