Mahboba's Promise is a charity working to improve the lives of the most vulnerable in Afghanistan by providing young girls, women, and children with protection, financial support and education, and developing skills training programmes which will bring long term benefits to both individuals and communities.
Afghanistan has suffered great damage in social, political, economic and other infrastructural aspects of society. For over two decades of war, post war conflict and continuous political upheaval has resulted in physical and psychological suffering for the vast majority of Afghan men, women and children.
A sponsorship of just one child or widow can change the lives and prospects for families and even entire communities. Gradually, over time families are able to lift themselves out of poverty and go on to live a self sufficient life. It is important to note that Mahboba’s Promise is committed to maintaining the family structure wherever possible, and keeping the family unit intact. Mahboba’s Promise is dedicated to working with families and communities in order to improve the conditions of people’s lives.

Who does the sponsorship money go to?
The money donated by sponsors is pooled so as to maximise its effectiveness. It is used to support the living costs of the individual being sponsored (e.g. shelter, clothes, food or medicines) as well as community development programmes (e.g. vegetable gardens, wells, training).
An increased focus on development programmes will create long term security for families as women are given training in tailoring, farming and animal husbandry skills on permaculture farms and skills to work in confectionary factories. Skills acquired in training will equip them with the means to provide for their family in the long run. Thus sponsorship programmes are key to creating and sustaining a strong family unit for women and children who have lost their homes.
This is an ongoing programme. Donations are made on a monthly basis. Mahboba’s Promise commits to helping an individual until they no longer require our support. This is often a long term commitment, with sponsors able to see how their donation gradually improves the lives of the individual.
