Fiji is facing a growing nutrition crisis. Over recent decades, many communities have shifted away from traditional locally-grown foods toward heavily processed diets. The result has been rising rates of diabetes, poor nutrition, and food insecurity, particularly for children and low-income families.
In partnership with FRIEND Fiji, Partners in Aid is supporting practical, community-led solutions that help families grow and prepare healthy food close to home.
The program works directly with villages to establish backyard gardens using organic gardening techniques, provide seeds and seedlings, deliver healthy cooking and food preservation workshops, and offer ongoing support to families as gardens become established.
Importantly, the project is not only about improving nutrition. Families are also supported to create small income-generating opportunities by selling excess produce fresh at local markets or preserving food for later sale and use. Financial literacy training helps participants build confidence in budgeting, saving, and managing this additional household income.
Our pilot program has already supported two villages, 50 households, and more than 100 beneficiaries, helping families improve access to healthy food while rebuilding traditional knowledge around gardening, nutrition, and food preparation.
We are now raising funds to support three additional rural villages. Two villages are already funded through early supporters, and we are now working together to fully fund a third village through community donations.
A fully funded village program costs $5,000 AUD and includes:
Every donation, large or small, contributes directly toward practical, long-term food security and economic resilience for Fijian families.
Whether you give $25, $100 or help sponsor an entire village, you are helping communities grow healthier futures from the ground up.
