Creating new work takes time, resources and the freedom to experiment.
Yet financial barriers can limit an artist’s ability to test new ideas, take creative risks and bring ambitious work to life.
We believe artists deserve to be paid for their work and supported to create without carrying the financial burden themselves.
Through the Platform Arts Commissioning Circle, you can directly support the creation of ambitious new contemporary art in Geelong.
How your support helps
Our goal is to raise $10,000, with donations starting from $500.
Your donation is pooled with the contributions of other Commissioning Circle supporters to fund the development, commissioning and presentation of a new work through Platform Arts.
Together, this funding gives an artist the time, resources and financial support to take an idea from possibility to reality.
By bringing together people who believe in the value of local artists and want to see new work created right here in Geelong, the Commissioning Circle can make possible work that may otherwise never have the opportunity to be made.
Your support gives you a unique opportunity to follow a new work from its earliest idea through to its final presentation.
As a supporter, you can:
/ Help select the commissioned work through a collective vote.
/ Meet the artist and hear about their ideas and practice.
/ Go behind the scenes through studio visits and work-in-progress updates.
/ Follow the journey from the initial pitch through to final presentation.
/ See your impact firsthand when the commissioned work is presented.
Your support does more than commission a new work. It backs local artists, keeps creative practice in Geelong and helps shape the cultural future of our region.
Why it matters
Without investment in artists creating work locally, we risk losing the ideas, perspectives and creative expression that make our region unique.
The Commissioning Circle is an opportunity to change that.
Your generosity helps make new work possible, ensuring artists have the financial support, resources and freedom to create ambitious work here in Geelong.
This is your opportunity to champion local artists, help bring new work into the world and play a part in shaping Geelong’s cultural future.
