The Portsea Camp is collecting funds to support over 1,200 9 to 12 year old disadvantaged, special needs and country children attend week long holiday camps run by our team of over 200 volunteers between September 2005 and April 2006. We have been running camps for needy children for 60 years and whilst the camp was once a project of the City of Melbourne, it now stand alone. Children's parents and guardians are asked to contribute up to 50% towards the cost of childrens attendance leaving a significant shortfall, well in excess of $200,000 this year. The Camp is hired to the general community (mostly schools) when children's charity camps are not running. Profit from these groups contributes approximately $100,000 towards meeting the shortfall leaving the camp to find $100,000 each year from community donations. As we celebrate our 60th year we are hoping to raise sufficient funds to meet the costs of 1,200 children's attendance and grow this number to 1,500.
How will the funds be used?
The funds will be used to cover expenses associated with children's attendance at January and April 2006 camps - food, transport, accommodation and associated expenses.
