About Prisoners Legal Service Tasmania

Prisoners Legal Service (PLS) Tasmania was incorporated as an association in February 2013; registered as a charity in September 2019, and endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) from 24 December 2019.

PLS operations are supported by a management committee (comprising legal, academic, welfare and community representatives) who largely volunteer their time and expertise.

How will the funds be used?

PLS Tasmania seeks to:

• Provide a framework for the establishment of a permanent Prisoners Legal Advisory Clinic in Tasmania;
• Operate a free of charge advisory service for inmates of the Risdon Prison Complex;
• Carry out research into relevant legal and procedural issues relating to prisoners and prison operations; and
• Provide opportunities for the ongoing education of law students and legal representatives.
