About Protecting the Protectors

Protecting the Protectors exists to ensure all Victoria Police members - both current and retired - have access to safe, secure, and timely treatment for PTSD and other mental health challenges.

Our Mission

  • Suicide prevention - Prevent police suicides by providing immediate access to support.
  • Rehabilitate the Injured - Deliver effective treatment for mental health challenges.
  • Protect the Future - Build resilience and create a safer, stronger future for all police members and veterans.

Breaking the Stigma Around Mental Health

Awareness and open conversation are key to recovery. We aim to create an environment where police members feel empowered to speak openly about their mental health, seek help without judgement, and access personalised treatment when they need it most.

A dedicated, secure hospital facility is essential to making that possible. By offering immediate access to personal care, we can reduce stigma, encourage early intervention, and promote recovery for those affected by trauma in policing.

How We're Making a Difference

Protecting the Protectors was founded in 2016 by Glenn Holland APM, a current Victoria Police member. Glenn recognised the urgent need for dedicated mental health support tailored specifically to the unique challenges faced by police members and veterans.

Right now, members who aren't covered by WorkCover or can't afford private health insurance may face wait times of 12-18 months in the public health system before receiving specialised treatment. That's far too long.

We bridge the gap by funding inpatient and outpatient care for eligible members through our partnership with the St John of God Langmore Centre, a leading provider in mental health services.

Beyond Treatment - Ongoing Support

Protecting the Protectors also sponsors Assistance Dogs for retired veterans through our partnership with Assistance Dogs Australia.

To date, generous donations have enabled us to support four veterans with trained assistance dogs, providing life-changing emotional and practical support.

Protecting the Protectors is a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not for Profit Commission that has Australian Taxation Office Deductible Gift Recipient status. All donations over $2 are tax deductible.

We thank you for your support and generous donation.
