About this cause

What do emotions have to do with climate change?

Climate change touches everything, including how we feel.

Australia’s leading NGO on climate change & mental health, Psychology for a Safe Climate (PSC) began in 2010 as a small group of psychologists and community members who saw what others overlooked: Our climate change response is not just about science and policy, but also about human hearts, minds and cultures.

What started as a volunteer initiative has grown into Australia’s leading voice in climate psychology. Today, PSC is a registered charity. We stand at the forefront of an emerging global field, bringing care, compassion and community to the climate and nature crisis.

At PSC, we work with the emotional dimensions of the climate and nature crisis. Because how we feel about the crisis shapes how we respond to it. And how we respond will shape the future for all life on Earth.

PSC strengthens the emotional foundations of communities responding to the climate and nature crisis, by putting the care in climate action.

How do we do this?

We do this by providing Climate Cafés, workshops, training and professional development, offering professional support and a safe, containing space for the expression and working through of people’s emotional responses. These workshops are available to scientists, researchers, policy makers, activists and members of the wider community. We also run organisational workshops for teams working in environment, climate, and sustainability.

We also provide speakers, presentations and conferences to share our understanding of the psychological impact of climate change. We have produced a number of publications and papers for the mental health professions, and for the general community.

Your donation contributes to allowing PSC to keep running programs at affordable prices, and to offer free places in our Climate Cafés for those who need the support.
