Asthma is a chronic lung condition that affects one in nine Australians. The symptoms can affect a person’s day to day wellbeing and if not well-controlled, can have life-threatening consequences. Nearly 400 people die from asthma-related illnesses each year in Australia, with hospitalisations from the condition also growing. Most of these cases are preventable with the right knowledge and support to manage the condition correctly.
Asthma WA works closely with the community to support people with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) so they may lead a healthier life and breathe better. Through education, support and advocacy, we strive to reduce the number of deaths associated with this disease and improve their quality of life.
We support more than 5,000 people each year to better understand and manage their condition with an ultimate vision to free Western Australians from the burden of asthma.
How will the funds be used?
Asthma WA provides free support services directly to people with asthma and COPD, training to health professionals to improve treatment and diagnosis, and education to teachers and child care centres about asthma and emergency first aid, while developing new services to better meet the needs of people affected by asthma and COPD right across our vast State.
