Sabz, Hamid, and Krishma are Afghani actors who once lit up screens across Afghanistan with their vibrant performances in romance and horror films. But when the Taliban took control, their visibility and courage made them targets. As artists and moderates, they faced immediate and ongoing threats to their lives.
They fled to Pakistan, where they now live in limbo—waiting two to three years just to secure an appointment with the UN, the first step toward a refugee visa and safety. But surviving in Pakistan is nearly impossible. The government imposes harsh restrictions on Afghans, and a six-month visa costs USD $750 per person.
Through Project 50, a Northern Rivers initiative connecting at-risk Afghani artists with Australians, I was nominated to support Sabz and Hamid (a married couple) and Krishma. In helping them apply for humanitarian visas, I’ve come to know them deeply. They are kind, resilient, and full of life—despite everything they’ve endured over the past four years.
My husband Ben and I are doing what we can to support their daily needs, but we cannot afford the visa costs that will allow them to legally remain in Pakistan while they await UN processing.
Returning to Afghanistan is not an option. Their lives would be in danger.
Will you help Sabz, Hamid, and Krishma stay safe?
Your support will go directly toward securing their visas—giving them a chance to survive, to be seen, and to continue their journey toward safety. Any additional funds will be held by Northen Rivers for Refugees and used for future visa renewal and living expenses.
Thank you so much,
Sara
