About this cause

With a global presence in over 137 countries, the Salesians of Don Bosco find themselves uniquely placed to enact a co-ordinated response to the global humanitarian emergencies. Working at the grassroots of communities, Salesians are well placed to provide direct aid and relief which is quick, compassionate and generous to those most in need. Currently we are raising funds to assist Ukrainian families facing extreme cold conditions and ongoing hardship.

Current support for Ukrainian families in urgent need

Four years into the war in Ukraine, families continue to face freezing temperatures, displacement and ongoing attacks. Repeated strikes on the country’s energy grid have left many communities without electricity or heating, with winter temperatures dropping as low as –20°C. In places like Odesa, the situation has become especially severe, with widespread blackouts and rising heating costs pushing already vulnerable families into crisis.

Amid this hardship, the Salesians of Don Bosco and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians remain a constant source of hope. Their houses, youth centres and oratories have become places of welcome where families can find warm meals, safe shelter, continued schooling, psychological support and opportunities for prayer. For many people these centres are the only stable refuge they have left.

The needs across the country change rapidly. Salesian communities continue to respond wherever the situation is most urgent, whether that means providing food, warmth, emergency support, education or assistance for families who have lost everything. Our partners in Europe are working closely with them to ensure they have what they need to continue serving their communities during this difficult time.

Your donation provides vital and flexible support, helping the Salesians care for children, families and the most vulnerable as they continue to face uncertainty and hardship.

How will the funds be used?
The funds will be used to provide support and assistance for people impacted by the ongoing conflict and war.

Current Outreach programs include:

  • The distribution of water, food, medical supplies and general supplies to the poor and needy.
  • The support of education programs for youth attending Don Bosco school in affected areas.
