Hope Bereavement Care (Hope) is a community-driven partnership model based in Geelong that is passionate about its vision that “no one should be alone in grief.”
In 2017, Hope established Support After Suicide, which provides grief support to anyone experiencing the loss of a loved one by suicide and those in the wider community who may be caring for them. With seed funding and ongoing support from the Freemasons Geelong and additional funding from Freemasons Foundation Victoria, this service to the local community has been able to be continued and provide programs and support for many families and individuals who have lost a loved one to suicide.
Hope's SAS service provides free information, support and counselling to any person affected by the loss of a loved one to suicide and those caring for them. Suicide is the leading cause of death for both adult males and females aged 15-44 years. Between eight and 10 Australians die by suicide every day and there is an estimated 180 people
who attempt suicide – with nearly half of those hospitalised. As an entirely community-funded service, Hope's mission is to ensure no one in the Geelong region walks the path of grief alone. Our partnership with Freemasons Geelong has seen this support extend to the Support After Suicide Charity Luncheon as another
way of raising the funds required to continue our much-needed services.
All money raised will help bring more HOPE to Geelong families grieving after a suicide death.
