Save Our Sons Duchenne Foundation is a national charity and peak body in Australia, supporting children and families living with Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy. Duchenne is a rare, muscle wasting condition with no cure, impacting 1:3500 boys and 1:50 million girls.
Our purpose is multi-faceted with ethical and best practise benchmarks at the forefront of everything we do. Firstly, finding the CURE for Duchenne is key.
Secondly, we empower and educate youths and families through access to information, literature, educational seminars, and resources so they are well informed and equipped to manage their diagnosis.
Thirdly, we raise awareness and funds to channel back into clinical trials, supporting hospitals and funding neuromuscular nurses in several children’s hospitals in Australia. We liaise with medical teams, pharmaceutical companies, educators and universities, developing resources, offering PhD Scholarships that encompass helping youth, families and ultimately finding a CURE.
