About this cause

Help us support research that will save African babies and children

Pneumococcal disease is deadly in Africa.

The World Health Organization (WHO), estimates pneumococcal disease causes 1 million child deaths every year.

There is a safe and effective vaccine to prevent pneumococcal pneumonia and meningitis.

However, due to the expense, this vaccine is not widely used in all developing countries and the consequence is unnecessary infant and child suffering and ongoing deaths.

Immunisation Foundation of Australia (IFA) is raising funds to support a vaccination study that will substantially reduce the cost of this vaccination, not only in developing countries but worldwide.

The research project will be a collaboration between Australia and Tanzania and will take place in Northern Tanzania.

The work is pro bono publico, free of charge to Tanzania and for the public good.

Any donations made over $2 are tax deductible and will pay for vaccinating children as well as local Tanzanian capacity building, training, equipment and expertise.

The Immunisation Foundation of Australia is proud to support research that will save lives by dramatically reducing the costs of vaccination not only in developing countries, but around the world. With your help, we can prevent pneumococcal diseases and save the lives of African babies and children.
