Established in 1991, Sydney Gay & Lesbian Choir is a non-auditioned choir which welcomes members regardless of their sexual identity or musical experience. Participation in the Choir gives people an opportunity to express their sexuality and musicality in a safe and inclusive environment while the Choir's public performances convey a powerful message of respect and understanding of LGBTI people amongst Sydney's wider community.
Why are we collecting funds?
The revenue we raise from membership fees and concert ticket sales covers our basic running and production costs, and the salary of our professional Music Director.
The SGLC Cultural Fund was established to provide an additional resource for the Choir to undertake special projects which help raise the artistic standard of the Choir, broaden the range of experiences we offer our members and audience, and expand our engagement with the community.
We contribute to this fund through activities such as raffles and applications for project-specific government grants. However, it is the generosity of private donors which really makes our hearts sing!
How will the funds be used?
- to purchase sheet music and copyright fees for new repertoire
- to commission new works by local composers
- to produce CD and video recordings of our performances
- to undertake performances outside Sydney, across Australia and the world
- to engage professional artists to work with the Choir
- many other valuable activities which we could otherwise not afford.
All donations of $100 or more will be recognized on the SGLC website and concert programs throughout the year 2013. Donations can be made as a one-off or in installments on a recurring monthly basis throughout the year.
