Our mission
To provide opportunities for individuals, families and communities affected by addiction and related problems to recover and achieve meaningful, satisfying and contributing lives.

To provide models of practice for family support, consumer participation and peer based recovery support; and influence practuce in the field of addiction and other related health domains.

Self Help Addiction Resource Centre (SHARC) is a Victorian community based, not-for-profit organisation, incorporated since 1997.  SHARC works with over 8500 individuals and families annually.  SHARC provides education, advocacy, family support and housing support to members of our community who have been impacted by the effects of alcohol and drug use. SHARC works with families and individuals through a peer support model. Our team is made up of people with the combination of lived experience and professional expertise. The interlinking of these two types of knowledge is why SHARC is richly unique; not only do those seeking help benefit from the range of professional qualifications but also the lived experience of recovery or transition needed to establish a meaningful and purposeful life.

SHARC programs include:

  • Family Drug and Gambling Help - supporting families affected by the alcohol, drug or gambling habits of a family member. Includes community education, peer support groups, family counselling and a 24/7 helpline staffed by volunteers with lived experience.
  • Peer Projects - promoting and facilitating the engagement of peer workers in the delivery of drug treatment services.
  • Residential Peer Programs - supporting those on their recovery journey with stable accomodation, counselling and life skills. Programs include Oxford Houses; Understanding & Support Women's Recovery Program; and the Recovery Support Services (RSS) for young people up to 25 years.
  • Association of Participating Service Users (APSU)- ensuring the voice of people using alcohol and drug services is central to policy and service development.

To continue this work, we need and value your help.
