Who are we?
The Sydney Latin American Film Festival (SLAFF) has been the cornerstone for Latin American cinema and culture in Sydney since 2006. We are a not-for-profit organisation, run by a passionate and dedicated team of volunteers and collaborators. There are 15 members of SLAFF from 8 different countries who work across community development, arts, law and academia. We also rely on numerous Festival volunteers who offer us their time during the busy Festival week. We contract a production manager and a sponsorship coordinator for the main festival but everything else is heart-powered! Learn more about our organisation and team here.
Why should you give?
We are a small not-for-profit organisation run by a team of volunteers and collaborators. SLAFF's continued growth depends in large part on the generous philanthropic spirit of a growing number of donors. Every donation no matter how large or small is gratefully received and supports the continuing success, diversity and creative excellence of the festival.
Whilst ticket sales go some of the way to bringing the Festival to you, it doesn't cover all of the costs. It's a careful balancing act to make it all add up, and this is where you come in. Your support makes a real and critical difference, and enables us to include a special and significant film program for all community to enjoy - which wouldn’t otherwise be possible. If you have previously enjoyed our festival, you know the experience and we ask you to please make a donation to support SLAFF!
SLAFF is DGR endorsed and all donations given through this website are fully tax-deductible.
What do we do with the donations?
SLAFF is a grassroot, community-driven and independent organisation. Donations received by SLAFF are directed to engage the local community with Latin American culture and make the film festival experience one to remember! We are more than just a film festival - because of all the culture, history and creativity we share with our audience.
SLAFF is currently the only organisation in Australia's 'Register of Cultural Organisations', able to receive donations to support its vision to promote a diversity of stories, cultures and voices to audiences in Australia with a focus on the Latin American region. We hold an annual film festival in September with the aim to showcase films about or from Latin America which promote the diversity of its communities and raise awareness on a range of issues affecting the region. We achieve this by deeply considering the selection of feature films, documentaries, shorts, live music and dance that further the understanding and appreciation of Latin America.
