For many years, Australian homoeopaths have powered a remarkable initiative in the Solomon Islands, fondly known as “Water Medicine.” What began over a century ago through the South Sea Evangelical Church in Honiara has grown into a lifeline for remote island communities scattered across the archipelago.
In some of these islands, healthcare is not a building but a person: a pastor, a kit of remedies, and a deep sense of responsibility.
In 2024, at the invitation of the church, we conducted a training program for 50 dispensers, made possible through your generous support. Over an intensive fortnight, we covered 60 core remedies, philosophy, pharmacy, basic anatomy and physiology, nutrition, and first aid. Learning was both classroom-based and hands-on, with clinics that gave us insight into the real challenges they face.
The clinical landscape was sobering. Antibiotic resistance and cellulitis are frequent concerns. Ear infections and STIs are common. Chronic diseases such as diabetes, alongside betel nut–related cancers, are a lifestyle concern. Dispensers often step in when hospitals are overwhelmed or understaffed, working in partnership with nurses and midwives.
And yet, what stood out most was not the disease burden, but the people.
Their enthusiasm was electric. Their questions were thoughtful and grounded in real cases. Despite most having education only up to Year 12, their clinical intuition and commitment were deeply impressive. They are not just dispensers, they are anchors of care in places where the map fades.
This September, a team of five volunteers will return for a week-long refresher program for another 50 dispensers. Alongside advanced training, we will run targeted clinics in women’s health and paediatrics, and place renewed emphasis on nutrition and lifestyle, because even in remote islands, modern health challenges are taking root.
We invite our Australian homoeopathic community to support this work once again. Contributions will go toward:
Every contribution helps carry care across oceans, into villages where it is needed most.

The Aurum Project acknowledges the traditional custodians of our land, the Cammeraygal people of the Garingai nations and we pay our respects to the ancestors and elders, both past and present. As we engage in homeopathy and natural medicine research practices within The Aurum Project, we pay respect to the sovereign status of our hosts.
