Soul Cafe was established in August 2003 to serve hot meals free of charge to disadvantaged members of the Newcastle community, many of whom are homeless, or experiencing issues relating to mental illness, substance abuse, crime, poverty or separation.
The cafe currently serves over 600 meals per week with a number of support services available in the cafe throughout meal times.
The focus with all cafe guests is to provide a warm, friendly and open space to enjoy a meal, meet with others, seek support and begin walking down a road to recovery.

Soul Cafe is non-government funded and focuses on providing its service through donations, fundraising and sponsorship. The cafe is managed by a small team of part-time staff and a large group of volunteers who ensure the cafe continues its service and support.
