Spirit of the Streets Choir Inc

Spirit of the Streets Choir General Appeal

The Spirit of the Streets Choir (Inc) commenced in Perth, Western Australia in 2007, formerly as the Big Issue Choir and renamed to its present title in 2008. It caters for the disadvantaged people in our Society including the homeless, people with physical and mental disabilities, people in drug and alcohol rehabilitation and people that are just plain lonely or wish to sing with a Choir. It provides an activity to allow the Members to re-establish themselves, make connections and gain much needed confidence to go forward.

The Choir presented a concert to an audience of 2,000 people at the Perth Concert Hall in 2008, followed in 2009 by a concert in St Georges Cathedral to 400 people. In 2010 ,as we have been fully engaged formally establishing the Choir to be independent and self managing we did not set a goal of a large fund raising concert but held a small concert to 150 people in St Patrick's Lutheran Church, Perth.

The Choir is run by a small but dedicated band of volunteers who give their time and expertise freely and they support the Music Director, Bernard Carney in his work with the Choir.

Subscriptions are not charged to Volunteers or Choir persons and the Choir is reliant on donations, grants and earnings from its major performances and 30/40 smaller Gigs each year. The success of the choir is seen in its regular paid performances throughout the Perth network and growth of the individual Members.

Continuing funds are required to allow the Choir to continue its community work and these funds will be utilised in meeting the normal costs of running a choir.
