Migrant Resource Centre Tasmania has many clients from refugee and migrant backgrounds who want to work in hospitality but need some support to get a job.
For many new arrivals, there are limited opportunities to undertake paid work while they are still working on their English skills. Many cannot afford to take time of their study or caring responsbilties to do unpaid work experience or training. We have many female clients in particular who have lots of cooking and catering experience but still require support with their English and need training to meet Australian food safety and handling regulations.
Our social enterprise, Origins Kitchen, runs training programs for people from refugee and migrant backgrounds to help them gain the skills and experience they need to help get work in hospitality. Our trainees have gone on to work in hotels, catering services and cafes. Some, like Bertukan (pictured) have continued to work at Origins Kitchen following their traineeship.
Our ability to provide these opportunities depends on external funding. We were lucky enough to receive funding recently to begin a new training program, however we always have more people applying than we have funds to pay. With your support, we can offer more paid work experience for potential trainees.
Your donation will have a direct impact on the job opportunities of MRC Tas clients like Bertukan and help them on their way to a career in hospitality!
All funds raised thorugh this platform will go towards paying trainees to undertake work experience in our Origins Kitchen.
