About this cause
Sunraysia Residential Services (SRS) is a charitable, not-for-profit community organisation. SRS supports over 250 people each year, providing individualised supports for people with disabilities to reach their potential, have positive experiences and achieve their life goals. In 2002, we opened a new respite facility at 4 Johns Street, Mildura Victoria, built to accommodate the special needs of children and adults with disabilities. The facility included a large storage room, which is now disused. We aim to raise funds to convert the disused storage room into a colourful and engaging Sensory Haven for people who experience sensory processing disorders and disabilities. The room will incorporate specialised equipment such as bubble columns, mirrors, lights, sound systems, soft massage/rocker chairs and projectors.

At SRS, we provide living skills training and support to enable people to be as independent and as self-sufficient as they can be. By implementing a Sensory Room at our Respite Facility, this will greatly assist people with disabilities to reach their full potential.

The Sensory Room is an interactive room which uses the senses (e.g. sight, sound and touch) to encourage and stimulate learning and development.

Children will encounter a range of sensory experiences for therapy, learning, relaxation and most importantly for fun!

How will the funds be used?

Funds will be used to modify the storage room and to purchase and install specialised sensory equipment to assist people with disabilities.

Please note that no administration or staff wages are paid with donations - 100% is applied to actual project cost.

Key Areas of Expenditure

The total project will cost $35,000 - funds will be used towards purchasing:
Specialised sensory equipment - projector , sensory 'touch' wall, fibre optic cushion, sound sensitive bubble column, bubble column podium, bean bag, aromatherapy soft toys, rocker/massage chair, surround sound system, lighting, sound beam machine.
Room modifications - doors and structural improvements, paint, soft fall matting and floor covering.
