About Stars Foundation

Our vision is to break the cycle of intergenerational disadvantage and see young First Nations women able to choose thier path and participate fully and confidently in the Australian community, enjoying social, cultural and economic well-being.

The Stars Foundation improves education and health outcomes by providing long-term, intensive, in-school mentoring and engagement programs focused on four key areas of personal development - Education, Training and Employment; Healthy Lifestyles; Community, Culture and Leadership, and, Well-being.

We currently support over 900 First Nations young women, in 15 secondary schools in NT, QLD and VIC; with aims to support around 2,500 young women in more locations by the end of 2022.

Our model is based on the best available evidence and years of experience; it is specifically tailored to address the needs of First Nations young women. Since 2016 we have seen consistently outstanding results across our programs - increased attendance, completion of Year 12 and successful transition into further study or work. Young women in the Stars program, parents, guardians, teachers and community services also report increased confidence, self-belief and improved overall health and well-being.

In 2018:

  • Above average attendance rates in all locations, with particularly strong results in remote schools
  • 97% of Stars students completed Year 12 - compared to national Indigenous rate of just 65%
  • Over 90% of Stars students transitioned to high-education or employment - compared to national Indigenous rate of only 41%

How You Can Help

Your generosity will help us to continue our important work and see more First Nations young women across Australia with access to high-quality education and engagement programs.

When you support Stars Foundation, you can be assured that over 90% of our overall funding is spent directly on the girls we support, with less than 10% spent on administration. The cost of raising money and managing grant funding as a percentage of our overall funding for 2018 was just 4%.

Your contribution will help to Close the Gap on Indigenous disadvantage by educating and empowering young First Nations women to make active choices towards realising their full potential; to see improved economic, health and social outcomes, not just for the girls themselves, but also for their future families and wider communities.
