About Stars Foundation

Our vision is to break the cycle of intergenerational disadvantage and see Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls and young women able to choose thier path and participate fully and confidently in the Australian community, enjoying social, cultural and economic well-being.

Stars Foundation improves education and health outcomes by providing long-term, intensive, in-school mentoring and engagement programs focused on four key areas of personal development - Education, Training and Employment; Healthy Lifestyles; Community, Culture and Leadership; Wellbeing.

We support Indigenous girls and young women in 37 partner schools in NT, QLD, VIC and WA.

Our model is based on the best available evidence and years of experience, and is specifically tailored to address the needs of Indigenous girls and young women. Since 2016 we have seen consistently outstanding results across our programs.

In 2020:

  • Stars students had an average attendance rate of 82%, with particularly strong results in remote schools - compared to Indigenous attendance average of 73% at our partner schools
  • 98% of Stars students completed Year 12 - compared to national Indigenous rate of just 65%
  • 85% of Stars graduates (2019) transitioned to higher-education or employment - compared to national Indigenous rate of only 41%

The Stars program also increases self confidence and belief, strengthens connections to culture and community and improves health and wellbeing.

How You Can Help

Your generosity will help us to continue our important work and see more Indigenous girls and young women across Australia with access to high-quality education and engagement programs.

When you support Stars Foundation, you can be assured that over 90% of our overall funding is spent directly on the girls we support, with less than 10% spent on administration. The cost of raising money and managing grant funding as a percentage of our overall funding for 2019 was just 5%.

Your contribution will help to Close the Gap on Indigenous disadvantage by educating and empowering  Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls and young women to make active choices towards realising their full potential, and see improved economic, health and social outcomes, not just for the girls themselves, but also for their future families and wider communities.
