Who we are
Utp is a Western Sydney-based arts organisation. We create, support and facilitate impactful and meaningful creative experiences. Our projects are self-determined and led by the artists and communities we work with. We believe in the radical accessibility of the arts. We want creative and critical thinking to be available to everyone – particularly for people from Western Sydney, people from culturally diverse backgrounds, people experiencing financial hardship, First Nations people of Australia, people living with disability and young people.
What we do
Utp is a unique commissioning and producing organisation. We make long-term investments in collaborations with artists and communities from outside the dominant culture to give form to extraordinary ideas. We work with an exceptional set of partners to co-produce a year-round program of performance, dance, visual art, learning and community-led projects, unlike anything you have seen before.
Ancestral Portals
Utp’s 2026 provocation, Ancestral Portals, invites us to reach backwards and forwards to reshape the now.
This is a call to learn from traditions, revitalise the present, and summon the futures we need. Through the speculative framework of futurisms, we can turn dreams into tracks to navigate around current obstacles. Travelling through slipstreams of past and future, we search for knowledges to arrive at our legacies.
Gazing into these Portals, we ask:
We hold power within the now to materialise the future we require. We hope that this provocation will inspire all of us to consider our responsibility as future ancestors; to leave Earth a better place for those to come.
