William Langford Community House is a World Communities Centre, and we provide a variety of programs and services that support and empower the community to grow, dream, learn and contribute. We provide a variety of programs including after school groups, English classes, computer for seniors, arts and crafts and cooking and a number of services including emergency relief, food relief and mental health referral.
The 2023 Foodbank Hunger Report* stated that 3.7million households, thats 36%, reported experiencing moderate to severe food insecurity, with 79% of those repoprting that increased/ high living expenses as the reason. We all know within our own families and homes that the cost of living has spiralled and for those families receiving low incomes or suffering mortgage or rental stress, this is having a deeper impact.
This month, we are raising funds to increase our reach into the community with providing food parcels and essential toiletries, often the first things people cut back on, with the money received. Just in time for the end of the financial year, you can assist us to support those in the community who need a hand up, especially at a time when the temperature starts to drop, heating costs begin to rise and a warm meal or drink is much more appreciated.
Our food support program, when available is provided to families, couples, singles and the homeless when requested. A $25 donation can allow us to provide a family with an essential toiletries pack; $50 will provide a family with a number of warm dinners; $75 will provide a couple with a week of warm dinners; $100 will provide a family with a wek of warm dinners.
Supporting a local neighbourhood house like ours, may not change the world but it could change the world for someone.
