For 2,500 years, Buddhist communities have preserved the wisdom of the Buddha in thousands of texts.
SuttaCentral brings these together and presents them in language everyone can understand today. We use the best technologies and design that the modern web can offer.
We are removing the boundaries of language and tradition, so that the Buddha can speak for himself.
What SuttaCentral Does
SuttaCentral contains the original language texts of the earliest Buddhist traditions in Pali, Chinese, Tibetan, and other languages. These are organized as "parallels", which is where the same text is found in multiple traditions.
We also collect, organize, and sponsor translations into the world's languages. Currently we host texts in about thirty languages. Now more people than ever before can read the Buddha's words all around the world.
How You Can Help
Your donation will support the continued development of SuttaCentral. We currently have multiple projects ongoing.
The most important cost for us is our main developer. We have employed a full time developer, to enable us to bring our many plans into reality.
Our plans include:
- Build a dedicated forum for gathering resources on Suttas, at discourse.suttacentral.net.
- Implement a customized and sophisticated search engine.
- Create a software package for assisting translators of Pali texts into the world's languages.
- Create a fully internationalized version of the site, to increase usability.
- Digitize translated texts in Hindi, Bangla, Sinhala, etc.
