Tanzaroo Community Library Project

Free public library and information services for Tanzanian

In October 2013, three women will climb Mout Meru in Tanzania aiming to raise funds to build a free community library in the rural village of Uwiro. Taryn Kelly (Australia), Charlotte Peyrat-Vaganay (France) and Elizabeth Horne (New Zealand) have all lived and volunteered in Tanzania and are seeking your sponsorship as they undertake the TANZAROO TREK 2013. 100% of donations benefit the project - the women are covering their own travel and accommodation costs for the climb. Please give generously to support this vital public service.

Tanzaroo Community Library Project aims to establish public libraries in Tanzanian villages. These libraries will provide village locals of all ages with access to books, newspapers, and the internet for the purposes of recreational reading, homework, study, research and development of literacy skills. The libraries will also be used as venues for meetings, gatherings and workshops.

Tanzaroo will work in partnership with Green Village = Green Future to establish the libraries, and will utilise the help of village locals and volunteers. The libraries will be consistent with the "Green" philosophy of our partner, as they will:
  • be the hub site for all environmental literacy training and discussion
  • house a special library of environmental resources for community use
  • be constructed using green architectural design and principles
