A national not for profit model whose main aim is to ensure all Australians can access meaningful, customizable and affordable funerals. Social enterprise charities will operate stand alone franchises that ensures services operate within a common framework:
Not for profit: Once a service achieves financial sustainability, all surplus goes towards the main aim. It is ‘fit for purpose’ – no surplus goes to other services (eg religious education or other social services). Everything is aimed at reducing the cost of funerals.
Community led: each one is owned and operated by their local community. Families are encouraged to use their communities as a resource to create the funeral that is right for them.
Core mission: to ensure everyone can afford a Tender funeral (one that reflects the wishes of their person, their family and their community)
For the whole community: Has a unique pricing model which enables us to offer a concessional rate through a Benevolent Fund (made viable by families who can afford a full cost price funeral and donations).
Innovative blended finance model: Community funding; Grants; philanthropic funding and a bespoke SEFA social finance loan.
TFFNQ needs to raise the start up capital to establish a service including Mortuary in Cairns. We need a site (property, building, fit out), we require equipment (mortuary vehicles, cold storage mortuary fridges etc), professional services (accountant, solicitor etc) and initial working capital. We have received a $100,000 grant from AMP Tomorrow Makers Grant program in October 2022 and office equipment grant from the Queensland Community Foundation along with a Community Grant for $35,000 recieved in May 2025 for a service specific vehicle.

Tender Funerals Far North Queensland acknowledges and respects the traditional owners of the lands on which we live and work. We recognise their continuous relationship to land and waters, we thank them for their ongoing care of country and pay respects to the elders past, present and upcoming.
