Trees in Newcastle

Trees in Newcastle

TIN's mission is to protect, promote and enhance local native vegetation and support people with a passion for plants.

To fulfil our mission we plant, regenerate, conserve, maintain and protect local native plants across the Hunter region. We hold workshops and share educational resources to encourage others to take part.

Trees In Newcastle is a community organisation

Volunteers are the backbone of TIN, contributing amazing amounts of time, enthusiasm and knowledge. As well as the huge contribution to the environment that is made, personal well being is nurtured through our inclusive social environment. Our volunteers are involved in:

  • Our Board and committees.
  • Our nursery.
  • Our Landcare team.
  • Projects and field days.

Volunteer and Student Engagement and Support

TIN provides on-ground opportunities supervised by qualified and experienced staff for our volunteers. These groups often include a mix of TAFE and University students , work-for-the-dole participants and corporate volunteers. All members of the public are welcome. Volunteer projects currently include:

  • Nursery propagation and maintenance activities.
  • Landcare project planning.
  • Relocation planning and implementation.

Leadership, Engagement and Administration

TIN currently has several funded projects underway, and a long history of delivering successful projects. Our qualified community engagement and administration staff have extensive experience in grant writing, project monitoring and reporting.

Bush Regeneration Services

With experience working across diverse ecological communities, our professional bush regeneration teams have built a strong reputation for working with sensitivity.  TIN employs integrated weed management strategies on our sites and our restoration techniques are based on the Bradley method. We recognise the importance of habitat, threatened species, endangered ecological communities, noxious weeds and erosion.

Local Native Plant Nursery

TIN’s native plant nursery provides a wide range of high-quality local provenance tubestock for projects large and small. We can assist your revegetation project with the collection of local seed and plant material for propagation to order, ensuring the right plant for the right place. With a large community membership, our nursery is open for our regular Nursery Gate Sale on the last Saturday of the month.

Landscaping and Habitat Gardening

Our team can create the garden you want using local native plants designed to create habitat and visual amenity. Projects we’ve undertaken include native “cottage” gardens, frog ponds, bush tucker gardens and bird-attracting gardens.

How will the funds be used?

Your donation will directly support:

  • A site for a permanent location where TIN's community and bulk order nurseries can be consolidated and community volunteers can come to contribute
  • Implementing sustainability measures such as renewable energy and water management
  • TIN's volunteer Landcare projects.
  • TIN's community education program of workshops, on-ground support and website.

Alternatively, you may nominate to directly fund a new project. All project proposals will be considered by our Board and must be in-line with TIN's objectives and ethics.
