WELCOME TO TRYACT, Two Rocks Yanchep Assisted Cancer Travels Inc…
THANKYOU in anticipation - FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
The relatively small coastal community of Yanchep and Two Rocks is located approximately 70 kms north of Perth WA. TRYACT Inc. became established in response to the need within the community to have access to a sustainable subsidised transport service for local residents that have a cancer diagnoses to attend the various medical venues to receive the many medical, diagnostic and treatment programs (chemotherapy or radiation treatment) within the Perth CBD or surrounding townships, when no other workable form of transport is available.
My cancer story by President of TRYACT Inc. Sue Dash - I am a breast Cancer survivor diagnosed in April 2011 after my surgery and during the time I was undergoing treatment I found transport from Yanchep a huge issue, medical professionals at Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital advised me not to drive my car to and from treatments due to possible side effects from my treatment plan…5days a week for 7 weeks. A taxi fare for this trip is $138.00 one way, ($276.00 return) per day x 5days a week for 7 weeks. This would amount to thousands of dollars!! Two Rocks and Yanchep residents are not eligible for the Patient Assisted Travel Scheme. Public transport would mean catching a bus, train and then another bus, 3 and a half hours travel time one way 7 hours return travel time. There is only one ambulance in this community so that is not an option.
I was approached by the local Country Women's Association and some of their members offered to put me on a roster to drive me, during the 7 weeks I learnt of many other community residents facing the same issue.
This is how TRYACT Inc. became established, in response to the need for a subsidised community transport service.
At the moment our volunteer drivers are using their own vehicles and have been since the inception of TRYACT Inc. in 2013.
Due to our community awareness program TRYACT Inc.is receiving a growing number of enquiries for this subsidised transport service. Two Rocks and Yanchep communities are also experiencing a rapid population growth due to large developments becoming established in the area, TRYACT Inc. recognizes that in years to come many new residents will require transportation.
We are looking to purchase a mini bus (12 seats) to be able to accommodate the increase of cliental.
Tryact Inc. has a wonderful support network within the community over 50 financial members, some of which actively promote and host fundraising activities, which have been very successful. TRYACT Inc. has also been successful in receiving a Westpac Foundation Community Grant to assist with operational costs only, fuel, maintenance and insurance etc., however to be able to deliver our clients in our own reliable, safe and comfortable vehicle would be of tremendous benefit to our organization and the local community.
