Victorian AIDS Council

Victorian AIDS Council General Appeal

VAC would not exist without the support of our community. Members, volunteers and supporters are our lifeblood and have helped create, deliver and govern our services. Every year thousands of our community members help VAC deliver on its strategic goals. As we celebrate our 35th anniversary, we recognise the voices that stood out to motivate and mobilise the community in response to the early epidemic. It is the spirit of those same voices that today pushes us to look beyond simply a world without HIV but also to a world where all sex, sexuality and gender diverse people live with dignity and respect.

We hope you will join us in celebrating, and encourage you to dig deep to help provide a safe and healthy future for all within the LGBTIQ communities.

Celebrate VAC’s 35th Anniversary and donate today!

The epidemic

There are over 6,000 Victorians known to be living with HIV, so there is an ever growing demand for VAC's services. Victorians affected by HIV need our help, and we need your support.

How will the funds be used?

VAC provides a range of programs and services, to prevent the transmission of HIV in our community and to improve the lives of people living with HIV. Projects we undertake include:

  • HIV risk reduction education campaigns;
  • Counselling services;
  • A safe and comfortable space to access essential practical and emotional support services;
  • Credible and up-to-date information on HIV;
  • Specialist medical practitioners, who provide bulk bill testing and treatment;
  • Emergency financial relief including food, clothing and furniture;
  • In-home care and support;
  • Therapeutic treatments and groups.

In addition, VAC has recently amended its Constitution to formally acknowledge that its purpose is also to support and serve the broader LGBTIQ communities to improve health and well-being. Our work in this space includes:

  • The development of a long term Women's Health Strategy;
  • Intimate partner and family violence;
  • Mental health and counselling support;
  • Alcohol and other Drugs;
  • General Practice for the trans and gender diverse community;
  • Peer Support and Education programs.

VAC relies on the generosity of its supporters to continue a number of vital projects and activities, so every cent you donate helps make a difference.
