In June 2021, Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) responded to more requests for assistance (RFAs) in the space of a week (6 to 13 June) than in any other week in its entire history. In all, more than 8500 RFAs were attended to, including by the Essendon unit, both within its response area and beyond.
VICSES Essendon Unit provides support to Moonee Valley and the City of Melbourne as well as specialist capability across Victoria. With about 45 volunteers, it responds to around 400 RFAs each year, as well as working with the community to build resilience and preparedness through engagement activties.
Fundraising is vital to VICSES operations, providing for equipment, training and support that cannot be covered by any government funding alone.
As our crews work through the aftermath of such severe storm and weather activity, we are asking your help to continue our vital operations to support the community.
Any funds raised will go towards equipment, training and supporting our operational efforts within the community.
