Volunteers in the Essendon Unit of the Victoria State Emergency Service have been protecting Moonee Valley and surrounding communities since 1981. Most recently we coordinated the evacuation and rescue of residents when the Maribyrnong River flooded early in the morning of 14th October.

Whilst we do receive basic funding and support from the Victorian Government, we rely on donations and grant funding to allow us to:

  • purchase and maintain Unit-funded rescue vehicles,
  • purchase some of the protective gear that our volunteers use in operations,
  • purchase and repair equipment that our volunteers use for helping our community when they are impacted by storms, floods and earthquakes
  • maintain our buildings and facilities, and fund minor upgrades
  • support our community engagement activities, including educational activities with schools and community groups
  • ensure that we have appropriate facilities for our volunteers

All donations made to the Essendon Unit will be retained and used by the Essendon Unit to continue building our capability to support our community in times of need.
