WAASP is a not-for-profit charity that has emerged out of the pursuit to inspire and support individuals in our community with limb loss. WAASP has been designed for amputees to partake in various sporting opportunities, identify future athletic pathways and improve overall mobility.
Our Mission:
To provide personal experiences for amputees to have a great time partaking in sporting clinics, learn new skills from both able-bodied and Paralympic athletes, sponsor future athletes with prosthetic componentry enhancements, as well as connecting with other amputees and their families.
Our Services:
1. Provide sporting days/clinics held at the WA Athletic Stadium including education and training opportunities for optimal running for track events, balance training, overall mobility and allow amputees to get involved in trialling field events such as high jump, long jump ect.
2. Provide group sessions from volunteer physiotherapists and exercise physiologists on gait and optimal biomechanics for running and walking.
3. Provide mentorship opportunities and listen to inspiration stories from past and present Paralympic athletes and aspiring athletes.
4. Provide prosthetic fundraising and sponsorship for running and athletic componentry to then be able to sponsor children with limb loss and provide them with a running prosthesis/blade.
5. Establish a sporting community for amputee's in Western Australia.
6. Provide networking opportunities and development of new skills for health care practitioners working with amputees.
