The WA Deaf Society only receives 25% of recurrent government funding. We require your support to enable our team to continue to provides services and deliver programs for Deaf and hard of hearing people and their families.
How will the funds be used?
Funds will be used in various ways including providing an Auslan interpreter for unfunded services, such as funerals, to ensure that Deaf people have the same access and opportunities as hearing people. We also provide program's for Deaf Seniors in an accessible environment as well as supporting Deaf and hearing family members to learn sign language so that they can communicate with each other.
Key areas of expenditure:
Community Services: Deaf Community Centre, providing a safe and accessible environment for program's such as Seniors, Language Early Access Program (LEAP), and community education program's, such as Auslan classes and Deaf Awareness Training, to be delivered.
Interpreting Services: Provision of an Auslan interpreter for settings which are currently unfunded such funerals attended by a Deaf person. Information and advocacy to enable Deaf and hard of hearing people to have the most appropriate communication access to meet their needs.
