About this cause

Forty years of proven conservation

C411 Country builds on more than forty years of community conservation in the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges. After eleven years of sustained volunteer effort, Liwik Barring was established as a Landscape Conservation Area under the National Parks Act - 3,000 hectares of permanently protected public land, now managed by DEECA. Through Beyond Yellingbo, Nangana has engaged 121 private landholders across 300 hectares in voluntary conservation partnerships. C411 Country is the next step: systematising and scaling what forty years of volunteer effort has proven is possible.

A living plan for lasting conservation

C411 Country is guided by Conservation Action Planning, a globally recognised methodology that identifies priorities, threats, and measurable strategies across eleven focus areas within the landscape. It is a perpetual, cyclical process: goals are set, outcomes measured, and strategies updated every five years as ecological knowledge and conditions evolve.

Yarra Ranges Council, Cardinia Shire Council, Zoos Victoria, Melbourne Water, Parks Victoria, and Trust for Nature are among the partners committed to this work.

Built to last

The Foundation for Natural Capital is being established alongside C411 Country to ensure this work is funded not just today but across generations. It will convert verified conservation outcomes into investable propositions, attracting blended finance from government, philanthropy, and private capital — giving donors, landholders, and communities a meaningful, enduring stake in the landscape's future.
