About this cause

Help Fund Our Flagship Cultural Leadership Camps

We’re raising $180,000 to deliver three transformative Cultural Leadership Camps over the next three years — and we need your help.

At The Settlement, we’ve supported Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families in Redfern, Darlington, and Waterloo for over 130 years. Our flagship Youth Leadership Program empowers inner-city First Nations youth through culture, community, and connection — and at the heart of this program is our Cultural Leadership Camp to Alice Springs.

These aren’t just trips. They are life-changing journeys of identity, belonging, and leadership.

Our Goal: $180,000 = 3 Years of Impact

We want to take 10–15 young people (ages 14–16) on a week-long cultural leadership camp to Alice Springs each year for the next three years.

Your support will:

  • Fund flights, accommodation, meals, and cultural activities
  • Engage Elders and youth mentors in program delivery
  • Build sustainable, long-term impact for First Nations youth

Why It Matters

“These camps changed my life. They got me through school, connected me to my culture, made lifelong friends, and led me to become a Youth Worker.”
— Ethan Johnson, former participant and current Settlement Youth Worker

After camp, participants return more confident, culturally grounded, and ready to lead — with many returning as peer mentors for future camps. The ripple effect reaches families, schools, and the wider community.
