Worawa Aboriginal College Ltd

Worawa Appeal

Worawa Aboriginal College is an Aboriginal community initiative. It was established to address the particular needs of Aboriginal youth. The College is situated on 65 hectares of land that once formed part of the Coranderrk Aboriginal Station now owned by Worawa Aboriginal College Ltd It is Victoria’s only registered independent Aboriginal community-controlled school and the only independent Aboriginal secondary school in Australia catering specifically for Aboriginal girls. The College has an integrated approach based on Education, Culture and Wellbeing. Students typically come from dysfunctional, socio-economically marginalised communities, where intergenerational trauma and grief is common, including among young people.   The College has developed a unique approach to serving these complex health and wellbeing needs by a combination of on-site health and wellbeing/welfare services that are complemented by an extensive range of external medical specialist, allied health, family welfare and domestic violence support services.  Aboriginal culture is embedded in all College operations including teaching and learning and Caring for Country campus care.

Worawa needs your help to provide resources and facilities for our students as well as for the much needed renovation of buildings and facilities. As the only school of its kind in Victoria, we provide a much needed and valuable opportunity for our students to receive secondary education based on both Aboriginal culture and academic excellence, please help to keep our school growing and flourishing.
