MTAG is stepping up our Filter the Stacks campaign.
We have a super exciting plan in the pipeline, which we believe will go a long way in helping our fight for improved air quality, particularly from the unfiltered stacks. This is a one-off opportunity that we may never have again. The timing is right and we need to act quickly.
MTAG very rarely asks for money. We have a small one off membership fee, and receive occasional donations and small grants. For nearly 20 years we’ve managed to carry out our work solely through the energy and dedication of our volunteer committee.
But now we need your support more than ever.
While we can’t share the details now, we can tell you that your donation will help us step up our advocacy in a huge way for better air quality for Melbourne’s inner west.
The West Gate Tunnel will get trucks off most residential streets, but without filtration we will still be exposed to the pollution from over 16,000 daily trucks. Filtration is proven technology and readily available and should be fitted from day one, just as the government’s own Inquiry recommended in 2017.
Our children are admitted to hospital with asthma at rates 171% above the Australian average. We also suffer from stroke, heart attacks and lung cancer rates way above national averages and these diseases all have a strong correlation to air pollution. It’s simply not good enough and we know that diesel pollution from trucks plays a huge part in this. The City of Maribyrnong declared a health emergency in 2023 because of air and noise pollution from trucks.
This environmental injustice must end.
Every contribution, no matter the size, will directly support this effort to hold the government to account and ensure the health of our community is finally taken seriously.
Please consider donating to our crowd funding campaign and share with others who also care about clean air in the inner west.
Together we can make a real difference!
We have increased our target because we didn't think $5000 would be achievable. However we have been so blown away with the generous support we have received and have set a new target of $10,000.
Thank you so much for your support!
